“Nomadic Women’s Lives: Care Work” Event Held at the COP17 Green Zone

The MONFEMNET National Network organised a side event titled “Nomadic Women’s Lives: Care Work” on 19 August 2026 at Pavilion 35 of the Science and Community Area in the COP17 Green Zone.

The event brought the lived experiences and stories of herder women into the COP17 space, while creating an opportunity to discuss how environmental changes such as desertification, land degradation, and drought affect their daily lives, livelihoods, and unpaid care responsibilities.

Participants also joined interactive activities designed to provide a closer understanding of herder women’s everyday work, time use, and care burden. Through these activities, participants shared their own reflections and experiences and discussed possible collective responses to the challenges facing nomadic women.

The event highlighted the close connection between climate and environmental change, care work, and the realities of nomadic livelihoods, showing how these pressures are often experienced through women’s daily responsibilities within households and communities.

The event was jointly organised by the MONFEMNET National Network and the National Committee on Gender. MONFEMNET participated in COP17 as a member of the Civil Society Forum, with support from the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).

The event was held in the COP17 Green Zone, which was open to the public, providing a space for wider engagement and discussion on the lives, labour, and experiences of nomadic women.
