“Nomadic Mothers” Programme Presented in Bornuur Soum, Tuv Province

The “Nomadic Mothers” Programme was presented to local partners and stakeholders in Bornuur Soum, Tuv Province, as part of ongoing efforts to develop a more comprehensive system of support for herder women and their families.

Together with the local community and herder women, the programme is exploring how essential services can better respond to the realities of nomadic life and pastoral livelihoods. This includes access to social welfare, healthcare, education, psychosocial support, and other care-related services.

During the meeting, participants were introduced to the objectives, planned activities, and future directions of the “Nomadic Mothers” Programme. Local partners and stakeholders also exchanged views on opportunities to strengthen cooperation and adapt programme activities to the needs and circumstances of the community.

A key focus of the programme is to take a holistic approach to the challenges faced by herder women. Rather than addressing care responsibilities, access to services, health, education, and psychosocial wellbeing separately, the programme seeks to understand how these issues are interconnected in women’s daily lives.

The initiative also places particular importance on developing solutions together with herder women, ensuring that their lived experiences, priorities, and knowledge inform the design of services and support mechanisms.

Through the pilot in Bornuur Soum, the programme aims to explore a comprehensive model that can better respond to the unmet care needs of herder women and strengthen their wellbeing, participation, and access to essential services.

MONFEMNET extends its sincere appreciation to Thousand Currents for supporting the pilot implementation of this initiative and efforts to develop care solutions grounded in the realities of Mongolia’s nomadic communities.
