The first meeting of the National Gender Committee for 2026 was held on 6 March 2026, bringing together members to discuss key priorities related to gender equality and national policy.
At the meeting, D. Enkhjargal, National Coordinator of the MONFEMNET National Network, member of the National Gender Committee, and national gender expert, delivered a presentation titled “Care Economy and Women.”
The presentation highlighted several key issues, including the concept and significance of the care economy, the realities of unpaid care work, and the specific unmet care-related needs experienced by herder women.
D. Enkhjargal also presented possible policy directions, including the development of new care-based policy and service models that respond more effectively to the diverse realities of women and families.
A central message of the presentation was the need to place care work at the heart of social and economic policy, rather than treating it solely as a private responsibility within households. Greater recognition of care work can contribute to more equitable opportunities, stronger social protection, and improved economic participation for women.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister of Mongolia also noted that care-related issues would receive further policy attention and be considered an important area for future action.
MONFEMNET will continue advocating for policies and services that recognise, support, and more equitably distribute care responsibilities, while ensuring that the experiences of women, including herder women, are reflected in national policy discussions.
