MONFEMNET Delegation Participates in CSW69

The MONFEMNET National Network delegation participated in the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), held at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 10–21 March 2025.

CSW69 brought together governments, civil society organisations, women’s rights movements, activists, and other stakeholders to review progress and remaining challenges in advancing gender equality and women’s rights.

At the opening of CSW69, stakeholders from the Asia-Pacific region highlighted six priority areas that require not only continued commitments, but concrete and sustained action.

These priorities included using technology as a tool for gender equality by closing the digital divide, addressing gender-based violence in online spaces, and promoting women’s leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Participants also called for greater attention to women’s economic justice, including decent work, living wages, social protection, and the recognition, reduction, and redistribution of unpaid care and domestic work.

Another key priority was ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) by protecting bodily autonomy, expanding access to comprehensive sexuality education, and ensuring accessible and high-quality SRHR services.

The regional agenda further emphasised the need to eliminate violence against women and girls through stronger laws and accountability mechanisms, increased investment in prevention, survivor-centred approaches, and greater attention to violence in digital spaces.

Stakeholders also called for stronger women’s leadership in peace and security, including full implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda and meaningful participation of women in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and decision-making.

Finally, the priorities highlighted the importance of gender-responsive climate justice, including gender-responsive climate policies and financing, as well as support for women-led climate solutions.

Through its participation in CSW69, MONFEMNET joined regional and global discussions on how these priorities can be translated into stronger policies, financing, accountability, and collective action for gender equality and women’s rights.
