The MONFEMNET National Network will host an open and participatory event titled “Nomadic Women’s Lives: Care Work” on 19 August 2026 at Pavilion 35 in the Green Zone of UNCCD COP17.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the National Committee on Gender. MONFEMNET is participating in COP17 as a member of the Civil Society Forum, with support from the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
The event will bring the everyday realities of herder women into the COP17 space by sharing their lived experiences and stories of care, work, and life in Mongolia’s nomadic communities.
Participants will also have an opportunity to take part in interactive activities, including “24 Hours in the Life of a Herder Woman” and the “Care Economy” card game. Through these activities, participants can explore how unpaid care work shapes herder women’s daily lives, how much time it requires, and how care is connected to wider social and economic systems.
The event aims to create a space for discussion on the often invisible care responsibilities carried by nomadic women and to draw greater attention to how these responsibilities intersect with livelihoods, rural life, and broader development challenges.
