The MONFEMNET National Network participated in a meeting on “The Need to Develop a Care Economy Roadmap”, where it presented on the importance of the care economy and the need for stronger policy attention in Mongolia.
The meeting brought together representatives from government institutions, international organisations, and civil society to discuss the current state of the care economy in Mongolia, key challenges, future policy directions, and priority actions.
During the discussion, MONFEMNET emphasised that the care economy should not be viewed only through the lens of welfare and service provision, but should be recognised as an important social and economic development issue.
The presentation highlighted that strengthening care systems can contribute to reducing poverty, addressing social and economic inequalities, expanding decent employment opportunities, and supporting more sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Participants also discussed the importance of developing policies based on the lived realities and needs of groups with the highest care needs, while promoting a more equitable distribution of care responsibilities across households, communities, the state, and other actors.
The meeting further highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation among government institutions, civil society organisations, international organisations, and other stakeholders in order to build a more comprehensive and responsive care system.
As a next step, participants exchanged views on continued collaboration in the development of a Care Economy Roadmap, ensuring meaningful stakeholder participation and grounding future policies and actions in evidence and identified needs.
