Youth Climate Activism: Proposals to Integrate Climate Education into Law

As part of the “SASA! Together” activism initiative, the ClimateEducators youth group is developing proposals and advocacy actions to integrate climate education into Mongolia’s draft Law on Climate Change.

The initiative builds on a SASA! training organised last autumn at the request of the All for Education! National Civil Society Coalition. Following the training, young participants identified social issues they wanted to work on and began translating these concerns into concrete, impact-oriented activism.

The ClimateEducators group is currently advocating for several key priorities, including:

  • integrating climate education into the draft Law on Climate Change;
  • gradually incorporating climate education into school, university, and lifelong learning curricula;
  • strengthening policy support for children’s and young people’s participation and adaptive capacity; and
  • improving access to education for nomadic households and other groups that are particularly vulnerable to climate impacts.

As part of this initiative, two staff members from the MONFEMNET National Network secretariat are working alongside the youth team and contributing to the policy advocacy process aimed at ensuring that climate education is reflected in the draft law.

The collaboration demonstrates how youth leadership, civic participation, and policy advocacy can come together in practice. It also highlights the importance of ensuring that climate policy considers not only environmental impacts, but also education, participation, inequality, and the different ways communities experience climate change.

Through this initiative, young activists are helping bring climate education and the perspectives of younger generations into ongoing policy discussions, while gaining practical experience in collective advocacy and social change.
